Owasso Fire Department hosts ‘Family Day’ for 12 new firefighter recruits

The Owasso Fire Department recently held a Family Day for Academy 261, marking the completion of a 14-week training program that began on Jan. 12 and concluded on April 17.

The academy graduated 12 new firefighters who earned their initial certifications, including Firefighter I & II, Auto-Extrication, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations.

During Family Day, attendees experienced hands-on demonstrations that showcased the recruits’ training. Stations included EMS skills, fire attack, a crawl-through maze, forcible entry, and tools and equipment. Guests also watched live demonstrations of a ladder-based victim rescue and a dumpster fire extinguishment.

Families had the opportunity to meet instructors, tour the station, and see firsthand the skills and knowledge the new firefighters developed throughout the academy.
